About The Authors

Jon Monroe:

After graduate school, Jon began his career as a management trainee at U.S. Lines, at the time the world's largest container shipping company. Jon became the first American general manager at container shipping startup Hyundai Merchant Marine, and eventually became responsible for the development of the carrier's U.S. retail service contracts, bringing to the company accounts such as Target Stores, JC Penney and Toys 'R' Us. From 1991 through 1998 Jon ran two global NVOCCs, Circle International and Emery Worldwide, later to become Menlo Worldwide. In 1998, he established Jon Monroe Consulting (JMC) to provide expertise to companies needing help supporting their growing global ocean transportation supply chain. In 2003, as a bi-product of a project with potential investors in a marine terminal at Shanghai, Jon took a team down the Yangtze River to document the changes taking place as a result of the Three Gorges Dam. Jon has spoken at many industry conferences in the U.S. and China on the evolution of container shipping and containerization along the Yangtze River. JMC's projects have included work performed for General Motors, Frito Lay, Saks 5th Avenue, APL Logistics, BAX Global, Topocean Group, and the Georgia Ports to name but a few. Jon has an MBA from Monterey Institute of International Studies and a BA from UCLA.
